Try making traditional Sarubobo dolls, hand baked senbei crackers, or painting lucky cats, among other crafts. We are a specialty store for handmade experiences and we take cash and credit card for your payment.

  Sarubobo Doll

  2,500yen

  Sarubobo means “Monkey Baby” in Hida dialect.

  In old days, mothers made this doll to their children hoping for their happiness.

  You will stuff body with cotton and sew the body and head together to using needle and thread.

  But don’t worry – our instructor will provide through support to help you complete your doll.

  Sarubobo Beans Bags

  This is a Sarubobo beanbag that fits in your palm.

  You will make one red sarububo and get one finished sarububo of a different color.

  They will be very cute and charming decoration for your entrance or room.

  Braided Codes

  Kumihimo is a traditional Japanese technique that has been used for centuries in items like kimono cords and hair accessories.

  Chose from three different colors such as pink, pale blue or orange. You can create your own piece and experience the beauty and tradition of this craftsmanship.

  One another code is included as a gift. (Sorry, you can’t chose this color.)

  Paiting a Sarubobo Clay Bell

  Decorate a sarubobo shaped clay bell using pens to create your own unique design.

  These bells are believed to bring good fortune and protect against evil.

  It is also includes a base for Sarubobo bell which is made from hard wood from this ares.

  Chopsticks & Case

  To maintain a healthy forest, thinning out excess trees is necessary.

  In this experience, you’ll create chopsticks from thinned Hida-grown cypress, which has a lovely aroma.

  Hand made chopsticks make a wonderful souvenir from Japan and are perfect for your meals at home.

  Chopstick case with a small Sarubobo mascot will be dyed using an original stencil papers.

  A chopstick rest made by Koito Pottery in Hida Takayama is also included.

  Wooden Photo Frame

  Cypress trees from this area is used for this wooden frame.

  It comes with sarubobo stickers and leads wires. You can customized the frame with a burning pen and stamps.

  The directions of hands and feet of the Sarubobo can be freely arranged.

  Scrap Wood Puzzle

  This eco-friendly experience uses scrap wood from trees grown in the Hida region.

  You’ll arrange the wood pieces like a puzzle and then bond them together.

  It can be used in a variety of ways, including as a wall decoration or a flower stand.

  You can also make a piece of key chain with one wood block.

  Kaleidoscope

  Our kaleidoscope making features genuine stained-glass pieces, which sets it apart. Unlike plastic or beads, glass allows light to pass through beautifully, resulting in a stunning finish.

  Painting of Ema

  These are ema votive tablets made using “Sanchu Washi” an 800 year history paper from Kawai, Hida City.

  You can freely paint the ema using pens on the silk screen printed design.

  You can also challenge yourself with calligraphy using brush pens or stamp on them.

  There are both  right-facing and left-facing versions, so please chose the orientation based on where you will display it. (The horse should face inward, as if running into the house.)

  A small paperweight made by Koito Pottery in Takayama City is included.

  Try decorating a lucky cat with your own designs.

  It is said that a right-handed cat attract wealth, a left-handed cat invites people, and a cat with both paws raised brings both.

  Paint your lucky cat beautifully and invite good fortune into your life.

  It is also includes a base for a lucky cat which is made from hard wood from this area.

  Baking Rice Crackers 'Senbei'

  100 yen / one rice cracker

  Bake salted rice crackers in a specialized kiln.

  It suddenly swells and surprises you! The freshly baked rice crackers are yummy.

  We have five kilns and the the number of crackers can be decided according to your time.

  (Ex. A group of 30 people × 4 crackers will takes approx. 40 min. in total.
